Just incase there is any doubt, here's a quick recap of what we allow and do not allow when submitting a website to the Zimdex.
Automated Submissions, Codes, Scripts, Programs and Hacks
We are a new directory and we want to make our directory users happy. This includes website owners, webmasters, website submission professionals, SEO specialists, programmers, coders and all users of Zimdom.
We do not list any websites that have been submitted using automated software. We are a directory for the people and not for irritating submission bots. We choose websites based on their merits to the internet community and visit all websites that are submitted by humans correctly. Many of us used website submission software over the years and we are quite quick to notice when a website is using automated software to submit to us. Any websites submitting via automated software will be permanently banned from all areas of Zimdom, but will be notified of the reasons.
Also, please do not place any type of coding in the boxes. We love programmers, coders and almost anyone in front of the computer at this point, but we really would appreciate it if all our problems were of our own doing. Please don't abuse this service with scripts, malicious coding, or hacks. We know there are some amazing programmers out there and we would rather you work for us than against us.
We have all had fun with programming and pushing the lines at points, but we hope you will be on our side and realize we are providing great services for not only the typical web surfers, but also for highly skilled programmers, webmasters, coders and website owners that have spent countless hours perfecting their skills on the computer.
Types of Websites Accepted and Types of Websites Not Accepted
We are trying our best to only approve website submissions that provide great content to web surfers. We also want attractive, or at least websites that don't make you cringe from the green on neon orange blinking table layouts. We have come a long way in only a few years with interenet technology and we expect website owners to keep their websites at least bearable. When someone searches for hospital, we would like our users to actually find hospitals in the search rather than a 12 year old cybergangster's blog about his/her trip to the hospital following a YouTube prank gone wrong.
We will allow an area for blogs and personal websites, but not in Zimdex. We will provide a search function so users can choose to search through blog types of websites, videos, social networking pages and others soon, but not here. We know there are great websites with such platforms, but we would like to provide the ability to search through others as well.
We also would love for this directory to be full of educational websites, serious business websites (no get rich quick pyramid schemes or "send me $100 for me to tell you how to get $100 from a person on the internet now!" sites), websites that most users would appreciate reading, websites that are indicative of the category the are in, and websites that don't read like a William S. Burroughs book unless it is a William S. Burroughs information site). Basically, if you don't think that people may want to tie you to a flagpole after they get through reading your website, then we probably want your website. If you aren't sure, just submit it and we will be honest with you and let you know.
We will NOT allow personal blogs, social networking homepages, overly offensive material regarding race, sexuality, disabilities, children, drugs, animal abuse or violence, gambling websites, extremely ugly website designs, scraped pages, spamming websites pushing junk, websites promoting or engaging in illegal activities, websites with numerous popup ads or spyware and whatever else we don't feel contributes to a great website. Who are we to decide such things one may ask? The owners of a website we maintain.
For those that don't agree with our views, try out DMOZ. I'm sure you will love it over there. Everyone else does. [I had to] That reminds me; no DMOZ editors' sites either. People made enough bribe money over the years and kept great websites down while expired domains kept flourishing, and still remain in the listings. I think it is their turn.
I know what you are all asking after that paragraph. "No extremely ugly website designs?" [I'm sure that is all, right?]
Websites designed like they are straight out of 1996 will find a home here at Zimdom, but not in the Zimdex. We are opening a "Retro Ugly" index soon and all these great classics will find a wonderfuly gaudy home there with flashing email icons, dancing bears and blinking rainbow colored backgrounds galore. Don't be surprised to find a mullet or two on some of the user icons as well. For those website owners that refuse to change their designs after our suggestions, we will possibly point them to our Retro Ugly index and would hope they join, if for no other reason to just keep history alive. We owe them at least that much for all the hard work they have done, and years of joy they have brought us through laughter and lessons by example.
For more info, visit the "add URL" section from the homepage on the Zimdex.
Thanks.
